Speedo® Extends Partnership with Natalie Coughlin through 2013

The most decorated female swimmer of the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games renews her career-spanning relationship with Speedo as she looks to make history again in London

LOS ANGELES (March 4, 2010) — SPEEDO®, the division of Warnaco Swimwear, Inc., today announced the extension of its long-time partnership with 11-time Olympic medalist Natalie Coughlin through 2013. Coughlin, the most decorated female swimmer in Athens and Beijing, has worn SPEEDO® swimwear her entire career and will continue to represent the brand as she looks ahead to London. After an 18-month break from swimming following the Beijing Games - which included a Hollywood star-making turn on ABC's hit show "Dancing with the Stars" - Coughlin returns to competition at the Austin Grand Prix, March 4-6, where she will race in the new SPEEDO® LZR Racer Elite Suit.

A Team Speedo star since 2004, Coughlin is aiming to make her third Olympic team in 2012 where she would have the opportunity to become the most decorated American female swimmer of all time - with 11 Olympic medals earned in two Olympics, Coughlin is only one medal shy of Jenny Thompson's record 12 medals (earned in four Olympics), the most in swimming history.

A veteran on the U.S. team and a leader in the sport, the upcoming Austin Grand Prix marks Coughlin's first meet back in the pool since her medal record-breaking performance at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, where she made history as the first U.S. female swimmer to win six medals at a single Olympics and the first woman to win back-to-back Olympic titles in her specialty, the 100m backstroke.

"Speedo's support both in and out of the pool has helped me grow into the swimmer I am today," said Coughlin. "I have been a part of the Speedo family my entire professional career and I am proud to continue to represent the brand as I look ahead to London."

"Natalie is not only one of the most decorated swimmers of all time, but she is a truly great ambassador for the sport of swimming," said Helen McCluskey, President, Warnaco Swimwear Group.

An extremely versatile swimmer, Coughlin has won a medal in every single Olympic event she's ever entered and left both the 2008 and 2004 Olympic Games as the most decorated female athlete with six and five medals respectively. She won gold in the 100m backstroke, silver in the 400m free relay, 800m free relay and 400m medley relay, and bronze in the 100m freestyle and 200m IM in Beijing. She also left the 2007 World Championships as the most decorated female swimmer in World Championship history.

Outside of the pool, Coughlin's commitment to a natural lifestyle and green living is furthered by her passions of surfing, cooking, health & fitness and photography.

The Bay-Area native continues to train at California Aquatics under long-time Speedo coach Teri McKeever.

Coughlin is represented by Janey Miller of Octagon.

Michael Phelps and Speedo® Surprise Swim Pasadena With Once-in-a-Lifetime Coaching Session

With the help of Coach Terry Stoddard and Speedo, Phelps surprised the Swim Pasadena team and served as coach for a special workout designed to motivate, inspire and teach

LOS ANGELES (November 30, 2009) — In SPEEDO® USA's inaugural "Surprise a Swim Team" event, superstar Michael Phelps visited Swim Pasadena and served as a special guest coach for a once-in-a-lifetime morning workout designed to celebrate and inspire the team. With the help of Coach Terry Stoddard, Phelps and Speedo were able to completely surprise the youth swimmers, who thought they were participating in a typical Saturday morning workout. After addressing the shocked team, Phelps led the in-water workout and offered guidance and training advice to each swimmer. The special session ended with an exciting "get out swim" in which Phelps raced two relay teams from Swim Pasadena.

"It's really exciting to be able to give back to the sport that has helped me accomplish so many dreams and goals that I've always had," said Phelps after the event. "These guys are the swimmers who are going to be there when I retire so being able to be here at Swim Pasadena and pass it along to these guys and encourage them to dream big and really never to give up is something that I think is pretty cool."

"Swim Pasadena and I are grateful to Speedo for giving us the opportunity," said Coach Stoddard. "It's so wonderful that Michael has time in his schedule to spend with the youth and it was so great to see him give back — and to be so relaxed as a coach. Before Michael came out, we asked our swimmers what they expected and no one expected that it would be Michael. It was a priceless experience that we'll all remember at Swim Pasadena."

A Team Speedo star since 2001, Phelps' relationship with Speedo goes beyond a traditional endorsement contract. Phelps used the $1 million bonus he earned from Speedo for his record medal haul in Beijing to start the Michael Phelps Foundation. As part of Phelps' new Speedo deal, which was announced in September and extends through 2013, the brand will donate $10,000 to the Michael Phelps Foundation for every World Record Phelps sets; Michael has promised to match each $10,000 donation as well. As Speedo and Phelps work together to grow the sport of swimming globally, this special "Surprise a Swim Team" event was designed not only to support Speedo and Phelps' shared mission to grow the sport of swimming but to also celebrate and give back to the swimming community.
