Your greatest ally in the pool

300% more surface area on the scalloped edge for more propulsion

Technology inspired by nature.

The Nemesis Fin's scalloped outer edge, like the Humpback Whale's fin, creates a greater surface area for water to pass over versus a smooth, straight edge. This technology empowers swimmers to push more water during training sets, giving you enhanced propulsion.

New levels of power, efficiency, and control.

Nemesis Fins use an advanced bio-mimic design with edges inspired by those on a humpback whale's fin. These tubercles create even channels of fast moving water, adding new levels of power, efficiency and control to your workout.

Smooth-edge fin

Nemesis Fin

3 blow valves.

3 blow valves.

The holes along the fin's edge create a valve effect where the water is captured on the underside and forced through the smaller opening at the top. This gives you more resistance for a powerful, effective kick.

Features

Nemesis Fins' innovative features give you unparalleled comfort and performance.

Tubercles

Scalloped outer edge, like the Humpback Whale's fin, creates greater surface area for water to pass over versus a smooth, straight edge. This technology creates enhanced propulsion, allowing the swimmer to push more water during kicking drills and training sets.

Blow Valves

Medial edge openings are larger on the bottom-side and smaller on the top-side. This creates a valve effect, in which water is captured on the underside and forced through the smaller opening. Thus, more resistance is created on the down-kick.

Flow Channels

Channels on the top and bottom of the fins help guide water in the proper direction and toward the Blow Valves. The Flow Channels also help medially rotate the foot into the correct orientation for maximum kick efficiency.

Injection Molded EVA (IMEVA) Foam

IMEVA fins are naturally buoyant, aiding the swimmer with an elevated body position, keeping hips and feet in a more streamline position.

Unparalleled comfort

Interior foot pocket was engineered by footwear experts, taking all unique footwear last features into consideration: arch support, more toe space to prevent pinching and cramping, graduated instep for excellent fitting across the mid-foot.

Heel Straps

Latticed back heel strap for maximum comfort around the heel bone and Achilles Tendon area. Unique under-heel strap gives extra stability and security at the heel joint.

Integrated Grab Hole

Incorporated finger hole on top of fin for ease of getting the fin on the foot.

First of all, why would anyone want a nemesis? An enemy, an agent of downfall? On your feet?...so the name for these flippers strikes me as odd.

Background: I don't know much about flippers. I like swimming for exercise, meditation… I'm 62 years old, 6' tall, 150 lbs, foot size 10-11. I swim about 3K maybe every other day in the Gulf of Mexico, have been at it for 6 months or so. Without flippers, it takes me a little more than 2 hours as I swim in no hurry, slow and easy, whale-like, keeping an easy stroke. I swim the crawl, turning my head for air every 3rd or 5th stroke so I get air on both sides, everything in balance. My arms and shoulders do most of the work for propulsion. Legs and bare feet kick an easy flutter to for balance but not much propulsion – if I quit stroking and keep kicking I slow to almost a stop, and as my kicking feet sink it becomes a struggle to maintain forward progress - we humans aren't really much good for swimming…
…So 5 days ago I saw an article about these Nemesis flippers and had this dialog with myself:
Q: Why do I want these fins, and why so desperately – why are my teeth chattering in a cold sweat? Humpback whale tubercles and flow channels, Bernoulli holes...is this the missing link that makes humans more aquatic, more whale-like?
A: Speed is not a high priority, but I do want a better distribution of labor among my arms and legs. If my flailing legs can be harnessed for more contribution, these flippers are worth a try. Maybe with a slight mechanical advantage I can ease off on my arms and take it easier. Everything has a trade-off, though, and if it turns out to be too much leg labor, exhaustion kills the deal. Humpback tubercles are on the front of their steering fins, not the back of their propulsion fin…so that whale argument seems pretty lame. Efficiency and balance is the hope.

Review: Today's first impression - a very comfortable fit, made of the same stuff as Crocs...but my toe knuckles were rubbed tender after a couple of hours on the first day…not raw enough to break the skin, but enough to notice…I hope for a mutual break-in. They float – no more treading water, since they buoyed me up from below. Floating on my back, my feet and legs now stay afloat when before they sank…a little weird to get used to.
Swimming, the first kicks had the flippers guiding my body into alignment, steering my feet toward each other…a little disconcerting at first, but we humans… I never splash arms or feet, and I was concerned these would force my feet to splash at the surface, but no! Maybe my heels breeched the surface, but rarely. The fin design kept it all underwater, the down stroke the power stroke, and I found it better to not try to kick, but to let my natural easy swimming motion be enhanced by the fins for better propulsion. As I became more accustomed I tried to forget about the fins and just go, with some success.
When I swim near the inlet the current is sometimes a serious challenge, but today with the fins it was no big deal. I maintained the same stroking and breathing and kicking as before and cut maybe 20 minutes off the total swim time and felt better. My legs were not more tired than before – they were put to better use. I think the Nemesis fins will be that missing link for me…as long as the skin on my toe knuckles stays on.

I use these fins at the end of my lap swimming, for about 20 to 30 minutes a day. I have improved my form and increased my speed, but mostly I like the way they help me improve my kick. Not interested in increasing speed, no races for me, just swimming for fitness for life. It gets cold in the area of my Y pool and I think this contributed to the snapping off of the back strap, I was not putting them on, just picking them up to put them on and it snapped right in two. There is still the upper strap connected but the fins feel different and I don't think they are as effective without both straps in place. Wish I could just purchase one fin, as the pair is quite expensive to only last 6 months.

        Comments about Speedo Nemesis Fins:

I swim laps for exercise and weight loss and was using provided full size rubber fins that didn't fit my size 12 extra wide foot. Saw these came in XXL 12-13 and they fit better than the ones I had been using. They're extremely light weight and CrAzY looking ! The only slight drawbacks are, they're kinda tough to put on my foot, although they're extra wide, I'm just afraid I'll break the strap forcing them on. The other is they bend while I'm swimming just past where my toes end are and it's leaving a bend mark on the fin. Not a big deal, I still like them ! When kicking hard the grooves in the fins make your legs want to open so I have to concentrate on my kicks, and they're making me kick upward on a power stroke too, before I'd only push down, now I'm getting more propulsion and they're actually training me to exercise better ! Get a set, I think you'll like them !

          Comments about Speedo Nemesis Fins:

I lap swim 3 times (about 4-5 miles) per week and use this product for about 50% of my swim. There are no straps to adjust so your feet stay nice and snug in the fins. Great for building core strength while increasing your speed and endurance. Takes a few swims to get used to because it keeps your body higher in the water. May be a little hard to slip on your feet at first so you will want to put them on once you are in the water.

I swim about 10 miles per week and my practice usually includes 1/3 kicking drills. Since I started using these fins, I have experienced Achilles strains on both legs. I have had to stop using them and went back my previous fins. Even though all of my fellow swimmers in swim practice think the nemesis fins look so cool, nobody wants to try them. I can't recommend these to anyone that uses these for sprint kicking drills or long kicking sets.

I cold water swim (no wet suit) and a life guard on the California coast cautioned me to swim with fins for the roughness of the waves that day.... so I looked up these fins, design over size.... so a lot of propulsion packed in small space... the fins also make you work harder so good for cold water swim.

The new design fascinated me. My lap was two strokes shorter than without the fins! The fins added power without feeling heavy or like they were dragging through the water.

Interesting concept and design, and I really like that they float, but I expected something with a lot more surface, something that would exert a lot more force. Maybe they are okay for swimming laps in the pool, but I can't recommend them for skin diving or scuba. I plan to return them.

                                          Comments about Speedo Nemesis Fins:

The size is very similar to regular footwear sizing because this fin was designed with a shoe last shaped similar to a human foot. Also, size L should fit a Woman with size 10 feet.

These are shaped like a breaststroke fin, can they be used for breaststroke, as well?

Dear Mike, try size XL since it fits Men's shoe sizes 12-13.
